Tignanello is produced exclusively from a parcel of 190 acres of limestone-rich soils at the Estate, raised 350-400 meters above sea level with a southwestern exposure.Known for being the first Sangiovese aged in small oak barrels, and the first contemporary red wine to include non-traditional varieties (e.g. Cabernet) in the blend, this wine marked an exceptional milestone at its first production in 1970. Since then, it has only been made in favourable vintages. The well-recognised label was created by Italian graphic and interior designer Silvio Coppola, and includes the historic family crest of the Antinori family.

The 2015 vintage was very much typical of the Chianti Classico region, which guaranteed the harvesting of ripe and healthy grapes between mid-September and early October. Fermentation took place in conical tanks, monitored with daily tastings before the wine was run off its skins and put into oak barrels for malolactic fermentation. Maturation began with 14-16 months in new and old French and Hungarian oak barrels. Fermented and aged by variety, the wine was then carefully blended a few months prior to bottling. Sangiovese makes up the bulk of the blend, supplemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The wine sees a further 12 months of aging in bottle before commercial release.

The nose shows notes of red fruits, cassis and blackberry with hints of chocolate and liquorice. The palate is rich and supple, with vibrant fruit and silky tannins. There is a long, complex finish that showcases the outstanding quality of the wine.
